About Us

In 1962 Giovanni Lo Coco arrived from Sicily with $100, one suitcase,  a hard work ethic, and a whole lot of ambition. Through various ups and downs, he opened his pilot restaurant in Jackson, Ca. in 1966.  A relocation to Marin in 1970 meant the end of his Jackson store and the beginning of his Bay Area adventure, adding our location here in Berkeley in 1983, and our sister shop on Piedmont Ave, in Oakland earlier that year.

Lo Coco’s is and always has been family owned and operated, a rarity in today’s culinary landscape. Giovanni Lo Coco’s legacy lives on through his wife, six children, nephews, and grandchildren. They continue to run these family restaurants with the same integrity, and pride; Continuing our ongoing success some 50+ years later.

It is for this reason, that if you are a newcomer, you may end up sitting next to a young parent,  who started eating at Lo Coco’s when they were their children’s age. No matter who you are, the Lo Coco family and team will try their best to make you feel welcome and serve you a meal that will leave you with plenty of desire to become a regular.
